Hot Temperatures Ahead
The Town of Los Gatos would like to provide the following tips to stay cool:
• Stay in air-conditioned space at home, the library, the mall, or a Cooling Center.
• Schedule outside activities before noon or in the evening. Avoid or minimize physical exertion.
• Drink lots of water. Avoid alcohol beverages and caffeinated drinks.
• Close shades and curtains by 9:00 am, especially on windows facing south or west.
• Keep lights off or turned down.
• Take cool baths or showers.
• Wear loose, light cotton clothing.
• Do not eat heavy meals. Avoid cooking with your oven.
• Do not sit in a hot car, even for a short time. Never leave a child or pet in a car.

General Plan Update Advisory Committee Recruitment Deadline Extended
The Town of Los Gatos is seeking up to 10 volunteers to serve as General Plan Update Advisory Committee members. The Committee will be responsible for refining the General Plan, a policy document that guides land use decisions through the identification of goals and standards. Members of the Committee are advisory to the Council and will be asked to:

- Attend regular meetings at least twice a month
- Participate in Public Workshops
- Identify outdated information in the existing General Plan
- Address key topics,including the environment, recreation, and the needs of youth and seniors.

The General Plan Update Advisory Committee is a short-term appointment lasting approximately 2 years. The Committee will sunset on July 2, 2010, unless extended by the Town Council. Openings are for adults (age 18 and over) and those who do not currently serve on a Town Commission, Board, or Committee. [More Information...]

Wonders of our Water Works
The San Jose/Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant plays a vital role in protecting and preserving San Francisco Bay and is embarking on a Master Plan process to enhance its faciliites and equipment. The Plant serves the cities of San Jose, Santa Clara, Milpitas, Campbell, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Monte Sereno, and other unincorporated areas is conducting free facility bus tours May - August. Learn how water that is used in homes, schools, and businesses, which amounts to more than 110 million gallons per day - is cleaned to almost drinking water standards! Senior of Distinction Award
The Terraces of Los Gatos and the Los Gatos Weekly are teaming together to bring recognition to a Los Gatos senior citizen who has made outstanding contributions to our community. Contributions may be from community activities, work, or volunteerism. The Youth Commission Needs YOU!
Students who live in Los Gatos or have a Los Gatos mailing address (in Santa Clara County) and attend a Los Gatos school are eligible to apply. Applications are available at Town Hall, by contacting Jackie Rose at 354-6834 or jrose@losgatosca.gov, or on the Town’s website www.losgatosca.gov (Government: Board and Commission Vacancies; Application Process; Youth Commission) and are due by May 20, 2008. Interviews will be held May 26-28, 2008, and the Town Council will make the official appointments on June 16, 2008. Read our press release for more info.
